    PROCEDURES WE PERFORM

    Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) Procedures

Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) includes medical treatments that help people conceive when a natural pregnancy is difficult. These procedures handle eggs, sperm, or embryos outside the body to increase the chances of pregnancy. ART offers hope to individuals and couples facing infertility, using methods like IVF, genetic testing, and sperm or embryo freezing. It is a safe and effective way to support family-building dreams with personalized care and support.

    – Sperm preparation for IUI
A lab process to select the healthiest, most motile sperm from a semen sample. This involves “sperm washing,” where seminal fluid, dead sperm, and debris are removed to concentrate good sperm for intrauterine insemination (IUI), enhancing chances of fertilization.

    – Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)
A genetic test is performed on embryos created via IVF before they are implanted in the uterus. PGD screens for specific genetic disorders or chromosomal abnormalities to ensure only healthy embryos are transferred.

    TESA ICSI
Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA) is a minor surgical procedure to retrieve sperm directly from testicular tissue, used when sperm are not present in semen. The retrieved sperm is then used in Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), a lab technique where a single sperm is injected directly into an egg to facilitate fertilization.

    – Test Tube Baby Facilities (ART centres)
These centers offer comprehensive fertility services, including clinical assessments, ovulation stimulation, egg retrieval, fertilization, embryo culture, and transfer.

    – Sperm banking (laboratory storage of sperm samples)
Laboratory storage of frozen (cryopreserved) sperm samples for future use, often used before treatments that may impair fertility.

    – Testicular Tissue Banking (cryopreservation of testicular tissue)
Cryopreservation of testicular tissue, which can later be used to retrieve sperm for fertility treatments.

    – IVF – In Vitro Fertilization
A complex lab and clinical procedure where eggs are surgically retrieved from ovaries and fertilized with sperm in the lab. The resulting embryos are cultured for several days and then transferred to the uterus.

    – Blastocyst Culture
The lab culture of embryos up to the blastocyst stage (typically day 5-6 post-fertilization), which improves implantation rates by selecting more viable embryos.

    – Assisted hatching
A lab technique that creates a small opening in the embryo’s outer shell (zona pellucida) to help it hatch and implant more easily into the uterine lining.

    – Sperm freezing
Cryopreservation of sperm samples to preserve fertility.

    – Embryo freezing
Cryopreservation of embryos for later use, allowing multiple transfer attempts from a single IVF cycle.

    – Vitrification
A rapid freezing technique that prevents ice crystal formation, improving survival rates of frozen eggs, sperm, and embryos.

    – Egg donation and surrogacy programmes
Clinical and legal services facilitating the donation of eggs from donors and surrogacy arrangements for individuals or couples needing these options.

    CARDIAC PROCEDURES

Therapeutic Procedures At KMCH Heart Institute

A minimally invasive procedure that opens blocked or narrowed coronary arteries using a balloon. The doctor inserts a catheter with a deflated balloon into the artery, inflates it at the blockage to widen the vessel, then removes the balloon. Often, a stent is placed to keep the artery open, improving blood flow to the heart.

Primary PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) involves quickly opening blocked coronary arteries during a heart attack. A stent—a small wire mesh tube—is inserted and expanded at the blockage site to keep the artery open, restoring blood supply effectively and reducing heart muscle damage.

Left Main/Bifurcation: These procedures treat blockages at branch points or the main left coronary artery, often involving multiple wires, balloons, and specialized stenting to ensure both branches stay open.
Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO): Treats arteries blocked for over three months, using advanced imaging and guidewire techniques to restore blood flow
Coronary Dissection: Repairs tears within the artery wall that can cause vessel closure; techniques include careful wire passage and stenting to restore true vessel lumen.
AV Fistula: In rare cases, PCI may be navigated through an arteriovenous fistula, using special access methods to treat patients with unique vascular anatomy.
