Our expert cardiac anaesthesiologists are highly skilled in managing complex cases involving Deep Hypothermic Circulatory Arrest (DHCA), Cardioplegic Arrest, ischemia-reperfusion injury, and perioperative organ protection—particularly for the brain, kidneys, and heart. We offer specialized Cardiac Anaesthesia training for Diplomate of National Board (DNB) postgraduate trainees, ensuring development aligned with the latest clinical standards. KMCH’s Cardio-Thoracic Unit (CTU) hosts regular Continued Medical Education (CME) sessions focused on advanced drugs, fluid management, and cutting-edge cardio-thoracic equipment reflecting global best practices. Weekly academic forums feature clinical updates and case discussions to foster ongoing learning. Our dedicated research targets critical areas such as cardio- and neuroprotective drug administration, reducing cerebral air embolism and brain ischemia during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), and investigating cerebral outcomes related to low-flow CPB and DHCA, alongside studies on myocardial injury post-cardioplegic arrest.
KMCH features one of the largest dedicated Cardio-thoracic Intensive Care Units (CT-ICU) in the region, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for comprehensive invasive hemodynamic monitoring, including pulmonary artery catheterization and Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) support.
